Beaulieu Prep Newsletter 13 - 2019

From the Headmistress' Desk

In this, the penultimate newsletter of the year, we reflect on examinations and why we do them. Simply put, the education system, of which we are part, requires results from Matric examinations (and Grade 11 examinations) in order to select candidates for tertiary study.

Tertiary study, in turn, is supposed to set up young people with the knowledge and skills needed to land the best jobs. The only way to learn the many skills and techniques required to successfully write exams, is to practise them in real exam situations.

Whist we wish our children to learn these skills, because it is likely that Matric exams will still be in place during the next decade, we also know that exams are not the be-all and end-all of successful learning. Now, more than at any time in the past, society is realising that human learning can no longer be linear. The Fourth Industrial Revolution has seen to that.
